LE JARDIN PERDU / TALWEG
To create LE JARDIN PERDU / TALWEG, Antoine Bellanger primarily used two instruments: a cassette recorder walkman and an ocarina. In his quest for ecological justice, Antoine chose a second-hand walkman powered by recycled rechargeable batteries and an old, second-hand cassette to record and edit soundscapes. At times a witness, at times a participant, he plays with his own role in the scene.
To perform the music of these settings, Antoine hand-crafted his own ocarina from clay. Once sampled and digitally encoded using open-source software, this ocarina becomes layers and melodies. (It’s worth noting that the ocarina exploded during the firing process, and only the sampled sound remains.) Antoine can finally rest and sing his simple, naive, and extraordinary stories.
The first 12 tracks that make up LE JARDIN PERDU (SIDE A) were initially released in 2022 as ceramic jewelry containing USB keys, made in 10 copies. The unreleased tracks that form TALWEG (SIDE B) were composed and recorded specifically for the cassette edition - Un je-ne-sais-quoi 2023.
