La flûte
Following Le jardin perdu (2023) and Depuis les cimes (2025), Antoine Bellanger takes a new turn with La flûte, an album that continues his singular path between songwriting, poetry, illustration and documentary storytelling
“When I was in middle school, my music teacher told me I would never make music. Later, as my drawing studies were slipping away from me, I decided to turn to music. Thirty years on, here is La Flûte, an album full of flutes and poetry, in which I also ask artist friends about their creative processes.”
With La flûte, Antoine Bellanger presents a new album every bit as personal and moving as its predecessors, while introducing a new instrumental palette: piano, tuba, violin, flute… He is joined by a few musician friends — Carla Pallone (Mansfield.TYA, Vacarme), Cico Beck (The Notwist, Images of Goo) and Michel Le Faou — as well as Ludovico Paladini, Séverine Lefèvre, Sonia Garcia and Grégory Cuquel, who are interviewed throughout the record.
At once a collection of irresistible lo-fi pop songs and a series of documentary conversations about art, dance, creation and love, La flûte brings all these fragments together with disarming ease. The result is a singular and warm journey, like a getaway with your closest friends, where songs, voices, memories and conversations gradually come together to form a single landscape.
Following Sammy Stein’s drawings for Depuis les cimes, Antoine Bellanger picks up the pencils and brushes himself this time. Conceived as a card game, the visual world of La flûte unfolds around the cassette in a double case.
Printed in risograph at Fun·Print·Lab in Tours, a set of 16 cards accompanies the listening experience: illustrations, song lyrics, details about the guests, notes and little handwritten messages to discover, read and shuffle. Each copy is assembled with love by the Un je-ne-sais-quoi team, true to its tradition of creating original objects where sound and graphic design come together.
