Daniel de la Nuit : La Nuit des bigorneaux is a children's book/CD. It is an illustrated story imagined by Carmela Chergui and Timo Hateau (44 pages in color - 16x23 cm format) and comes with an instrumental music CD composed by the musician Funken.

Daniel is a delightful little squid, everyone in Villeneuve-la-Roussette will tell you that. But today, it’s something else. It’s the middle of the night, and he refuses to go back to sleep. And it’s not just any night! It’s the Night of the Periwinkles! Taking advantage of a moment of his father’s inattention, he sneaks out of the house and wakes up the village inhabitants one by one... Set to music with tenderness and illustrated with humor, this nocturnal odyssey will appeal to all kinds of invertebrates and their parents.

To create the music for Daniel in the Night, Funken drew inspiration from American minimalist music of the 60s and 70s, known as "repetitive" music. He used his modular synthesizer to create polyrhythmic patterns and a mini-synth, the Pocket Piano 2021, whose arpeggios represent Daniel's journey through this underwater night.

The music composed by Funken to accompany Daniel's adventure is both playful and meditative.

Daniel dans la nuit originally began as a children's show combining theater and animated images. It was conceived by Timo Hateau, with the collaboration of Carmela Chergui and Vincent Lahens, produced by the company La Rotule, and distributed by Un deux un deux.
